Theoretically it should keep you updated. But lately I have been doing it manually to ensure the update takes. If you hold down the windows key on the keyboard and press R, and run the program msinfo32.exe it will populate a window that will show you the installed BIOS version/date. If you post that here I can check and make sure it is the most current.

Open the command prompt by right clicking it and run as administrator. run the command sfc /scannow. This will run a scan on your registry. If this finds no violations we may want to roll back to the previous operating system to see if it is still there, and to take screen shots of the current drivers. Then once we upgrade to windows 10 again we can the drivers and compare to see if there are any missing from the previous build that this one may be.

Hi Phil
Is the BIOS current?
I initiated the scan - says it may take some time. Right now Verification is 8% complete.
Rolling back OS to Windows 8.1 and then eventually re-installing Windows 10 sounds a little formidable and scary. I hope there are other options.

Actually, I found an interesting article from the ASUS support page. This is not specific to the unit, it is specifically impacting the ethernet driver itself. It doesn't effect connectivity apparantly.
Try installing the driver manually by extracting the files using 7zip and then install the driver manually pointing to this directory :
C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\D2999FDC-F09B-4F60-9394-3CD81D1D1EB6_x64\Win7
So a new (hidden) peripheral has appeared (Intel(R) Technology Access TAP Driver (NDIS 6.0)).
To install right click on the driver, select update driver and then browse to that folder.
If this doesn't work try installing it manually to the program data directory.

Hi Phil,
Sorry, you are losing me a little. Rarely connect this computer via ethernet. Have an identical computer with the same(?) unknown driver which is almost always connected via ethernet through a docking station.
Where would I find this driver?
In File Explorer, path C:\ProgramData\Package Cache does not contain the folder you cited.
Do not understand what you mean by:
"This is not specific to the unit, it is specifically impacting the ethernet driver itself. It doesn't effect connectivity apparantly. "
and,
"So a new (hidden) peripheral has appeared (Intel(R) Technology Access TAP Driver (NDIS 6.0))."
Sorry for my ignorance.
By the way, registry scan now 65% complete. Do you know if the BIOS is current?

Hi Line 29,
Sorry for the late response. The expert day ended and I had to start taking calls at the center I work at. If you give me a moment I will check the drivers and get you a link and step by step instructions.
