Hi guys,
I just bought this laptop brand new recently and it came with the original Windows 8.0. That OS is no longer supported since 2016 from Microsoft, so I bought a copy of Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit from Ebay. Now my task is downloading all necessary drivers and software. I went online and I found the 17-e049wm model on the HP support page and I downloaded all the hardware drivers I could find. Everything installed fine, but I still have "unknown device" in the device manager. Seems to be something related to ACPI, judging from the snapshots I took. Which download do I need to fix this? Hopefully theres some other users on here with the same exact laptop upgraded to Win8.1 or Win10 to help give me some assistance. Thanks for any help.

You're very welcome.
The only drivers that should be installed in a specific order would be these, and restarting the PC after each installation.
1. Chipset
2. Graphics
3. Audio
Then you can install whatever you want afterward. I would start with the ethernet or wireless next.
HP coolsense installs in C:\Program files but the Coolsense control is listed in the windows control panel.
If you have a clean device manager, anything else is optional.
I assume you installed the touchpad drivers too? That won't show up in the device manager as a missing device.

Hi:
You need this driver for that device...
This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard Software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The HP 3D DriveGuard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object.

Thank you! This fixed the issue! Now everything looks right. I have two more questions for you please.
1. What is the correct install order for all of the drivers on the list, including HP 3D Drive Guard?
2. Do the other HP software listed for this model, such as HP Cool Sense, install into device manager, or do they install like regular software does, into the "C:/Program Files" folders? Seeing how HP 3D drive guard was the last driver to install, I don't really need to install any extra HP stuff?

May I ask a few more questions regarding the drivers and software please? I was not intending on creating spam. I was only making grammar corrections to my post that was deleted. I meant no harm.
If not, it's ok. I'll just have to ask a local PC shop for help with my laptop.

Alright, thanks. 🙂

2. Do the other HP software, such as HP Cool Sense for example install into the device manager, or do they install like regular software does, into C:/program files?
3. Is there any other software from the list for my specific laptop that I need, or are the rest of them optional? Any extra HP software or others I need?
