The laptop I bought is brand new. Had it for about four months. Until a few days ago, when I unplug the ac adapter after fully charged, the screen goes black. It seems that the BIOS keeps failing. Keep the computer regularly updated. Installed the latest BIOS version yesterday and still the same issue.

Hi @SamF220,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The black screen issue you are experiencing on your HP Envy 16-inch Laptop PC when unplugging the AC adapter after it's fully charged might be related to power management settings, hardware-related issues, or a BIOS misconfiguration despite recent updates. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Check Power Plan Settings:
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options.
- Make sure your power plan is not set to turn off the screen or hibernate immediately when unplugged.
- Adjust the settings under Change Plan Settings → Change advanced power settings.
- In the advanced settings, check the Display and Battery options to ensure that the screen does not turn off or dim immediately when the adapter is unplugged.
Reset BIOS Settings:
- Even though you've updated the BIOS, resetting it to default settings might resolve the issue.
- Restart your laptop, press F10 to enter the BIOS.
- Look for the option to Load Default Settings or Restore Factory Settings and save changes before exiting.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Ensure you have the latest graphics drivers installed. You can update them via Device Manager:
- Right-click Start → Device Manager → Expand Display Adapters.
- Right-click your graphics card and select Update driver.
- Alternatively, visit the HP support website or the graphics card manufacturer's site for the latest drivers.
Check for Hardware-Related Issues:
- Run HP Diagnostics to check for any hardware faults:
- Restart your laptop, press F2 to enter HP diagnostics, and run a full system test to detect any potential issues with the hardware.
Battery Calibration:
- Sometimes, the battery calibration can be off, causing power-related issues.
- Drain the battery completely (let it run out of power), then charge it back to 100% while the laptop is off. This might help recalibrate the battery.
Windows Power Management Issues:
- Try disabling Fast Startup, which can sometimes cause issues like this:
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Perform a System Restore:
- If the issue started only a few days ago, performing a system restore to a point before the issue began might help.
- Go to Control Panel → Recovery → Open System Restore.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
