Going back to my post on page three :

"Out of the box the 4540s laptop comes with BIOS F.01 (68IRR).

Download BIOS F4.0 from the HP site (select 'driver downloads', search for 4540s, ensure you get the F4.0 BIOS)"

Your saying your BIOS is F.41, which is still pretty far behind F4.0.

The 'out of the box' BIOS will be very old, but the version number may differ depending on your locale.

I'm quite sure the BIOS update is a critical factor in this as Intel had issues with descrete graphics cards when they first released the chipset that is in your motherboard. This (unfortunatlely) is common, and it up to the purchaser / end user to apply BIOS updates which resolve these types of issues.

To download the BIOS :

- Goto your local HP site.

- Hover the cursor over 'Support'  and then select 'Download drivers' from the popup menu.

- Type 4540s into the 'Find by product' box

- You'll probably get a couple options come up, but just select the 'Notbook PC' option.

- Select your operating system.

- Select BIOS

- You should then see the latest BIOS which .. wouldn't you know it .. is now F4.2 (two increments on from when I downloaded it).

- Select the Download button .. it should download something like sp62685.exe

- Save the file

I can't seem to create a link to the file, however ifyour locale (your location in the world) is different to mine then your BIOS may be different aswell. Ensure you download the BIOS from your local  HP site as different regions may have different aspects to them in the BIOS.

These were my instructions for installing the BIOS from my last (first ?) entry which should still be pretty right :

- ensure you're connected to mains power and shut down all other apps.

- double click the file you downloaded in windows explorer

- Read the blurb and ensure it's the 68IRR BIOS (for a 4540s system)

- click next next next

- system will restart

- the BIOS update screen will pop up, leave this until it's finished

- Windows will fire up but then want to restart, so restart accordingly

- Press F10 on this restart and check that the BIOS is now F 4.0 (or in your case F4.2)

That's the BIOS updated, but I'd also recommend updating the GFX card driver.

That can be found on the same driver page, just instead of selecting BIOS select Driver - Graphics and download the AMD driver (not the Intel driver).

Read through my instructions from the top of page 3 on how to install that.

Give this a whirl and see how you go.

If in doubt, swing this past your local IT guru (or whom-ever you trust with computer related stuff) and get their 2 cents on it.

Remember you'll need to run something that can show you a performance rating of the system (like Passmark) to determine if the GFX card has been updated. Compare the scores you get with other scores online.

Good luck :generic:

This is the right solution

first i downloaded the driver given by jggghiuf ,here's the link:

http://benchmark3d.com/amd-catalyst-12-6-9-00-beta-june-12-7900-mod

i first uninstalled my previous drivers (ati & intel) using the uninstall option that comes when u launch the ati driver setup given in the above link ^^.i chose express uninstall and then it asked me to restart my laptop and i did. After restart, i again launched the driver setup and chose express install. After install it again asked me to restart and i did. Then without testing any game i went to the energy options and put the required options to "Maximum Performance" as Ferrus told to do.Then i tried launching the Catalyst program and it gave me an error to install microsoft framework 3.5 and i did.the i lauched Prototype 2 to check if it worked and it did work cause the game could run on highest graphics without lagging.I then checked the score in passmark program and it gave me a score of 724!

Yeah!!

Hi,

When I went into the Energy options, there is no option for switchable grphics in there.

Can you please suggest how can that option be activated to be modified.

Please see the screenshot for your reference.

I have HPDV6 - 6119 tx with switchable graphics.

I have selected the dynamic option in BIOS. But whenver I start any application with profile set to High Performance in CCC, my system crashes. Also, if I disconnect my charger, my graphics suddenly deteriorate and AMD Radeon stops showing in Device manager. Also CCC issues warning saying that you need to install the drivers for a proper hardware... smthng like that.

Its a lot of trouble. Though my laptop works great with Fixed Mode in BIOS. I can switch between graphi card manually. But still it would be better if I somwhow manage the dynamic mode owing to the fact that I did pay for it 😞Advanced settings.png

HI Deepanshu, just click on the + mark of Intel(R) and set both to high performance, and in the second picture, click on ATI Graphics Power Settings and Set both to max performance...

Regarding your error message, uninstall your Graphics card from Device maganer and re-install. Make sure what is your graphics adapter, and it's version. Because you say you have got HPDV6 - 6119 and this thread is regarding HP ProBook 4540s with AMD Radeon 7560M....
