Windows 8 was originally installed on my Pavilion 17 Notebook. It's Windows 10 now. When I recently recovered the OS, it recovered to 8. I had to repeat the upgrade to 10. Now, I can't get it to make a Windows 10 recovery USB drive. It only makes a Windows 8 recovery drive. I want to update the HP recovery partition to 10. Is this possible or would it be better to delete it? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Hi:
Unfortunately it is not possible to change the recovery partition from W8 to W10.
It is a system image from HP and it will always install W8.
So, you can delete it to free up disk space or leave it be. Your choice.
You can always make a plain W10 installation USB flash drive by using the Media Creation tool.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...
- Select Download tool now, and select Run.
- If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
- On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.
- Select which media you want to use:
- USB flash drive. Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
You can also make a system image of your current installation using the free Macrium Reflect software.
https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
Get a portable hard drive large enough to save the image on.
The software will also prompt you to make a rescue USB flash drive or DVD which you boot from to access the image stored on your portable hard drive.
You can make a new system image anytime you want to keep it updated.
Then if you ever need to reinstall W10, you can use the latest image you made to be as close to where you were.
