HP Pavillion - 15 - cs0053cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to following HP instructions to update BIOS on my HP Pavillion laptop. I have been able to download the new dated BIOS and saved on USB drive. When I opened up Startup Menu on this laptop and got to the page of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, it shows BIOS Version 1.24.0.0 together with three diagnostic options: Memory Test, Hard Drive Check and Language, then Exit. There is no option for Firmware Management or BIOS Management on this page as indicated by HP instructions for the first step of BIOS updating? Anyone has idea on why  Firmware Management or BIOS Management option is missing on HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI page, and how can I get the BIOS updated in this case?

There's another type of HP Diagnostics UEFI app that contains Firmware Management. Go back to your model's HP drivers download site and you'll see Diagnostic, just below BIOS, that contains three entries. What you need to download is the top one HP PC Diagnostics UEFI 7.6.2.0 REV A. Right click the downloaded sp file and click Run as Administrator and follow the instructions. You'll be prompted to decide where to install the app. Choose the hard drive. The app will be installed onto the EFI partition on the hard drive. It'll be accessible only from F2. Upon completion of the installation restart the computer and enter F2. You'll see Firmware Management half way down the list.

Since I'm helping you with the BIOS updating process, I should tell you that updating BIOS can be a risky business, and you need to fully understand what fixes a new BIOS offers. Just because HP releases a new BIOS doesn't mean you have to install it.

Take care.
