HP Pavilion - 15-cw1012au
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a problem with the OS locking up when I try to sync the Windows internet time. After re-booting the computer it does manage to sync okay, but the 3rd or 4th time I try syncing the operating system freezes up the instant I click on Sync.

I have a HP Pavilion running Windows 10 Home v22H2 and have installed all available Microsoft updates. All drivers are up to date. The operating system was reset yesterday and hardly any additional software has been installed. It's the 3rd time I've reset Windows in the past week and the problem persists.

Here are some of the solutions I have tried from ideas offered by others:

Checked BIOS time is correct.

Checked WindowsTime is running under services.

Tried both time.windows.com and time.nist.gov servers

Removed virtual network adapters in device manager

Ran system file checker

Ran tweaking.com system repair software

Turned off the firewall

Unregistered and reregistered w32tm using Command

I have noticed a message come up in Event Viewer under event code 158, saying

"The time provider 'VMICTimeProvider' has indicated that the current hardware and operating environment is not supported and has stopped. This behavior is expected for VMICTimeProvider on non-HyperV-guest environments. This may be the expected behavior for the current provider in the current operating environment as well."

I'm not sure if this is relevant but it's the most obvious message I could see. Extensive searches on this have failed to offer a solution though.

At this stage I've run out of ideas. Any help much appreciated.

I have determined it is most likely a BIOS issue and will post in the appropriate section.
