I still have offers to free upgrade to Windows 10. Since the driver page for my laptop only goes up to Windows 8.1 does that mean that my laptop is incompatible with Windows 10?

I remember upgrading very early one once and it was a bad idea. The laptop was slower and buggier than usual.

They are compatible.  I have upgraded many machine that only have Windows 8.1 drivers with no Windows 10 drivers and they work just fine.  Even if they did not Windows 10 is smart enough to detect newer drivers and automatically install them.

Just because the driver page does not have drivers for Windows 8.1 does not mean it can't run Windows 10.  I would suggest upgrading to Windows 10.  After the update if you still have a buggy experience you can revert back to Windows 8.1 within 10 days.

No, the driver page only has 8.1 drivers.  (I have windows 8.1)

I am concerned that the existing drivers would not be compatible with the Windows 10. Like WLAN and touchpad drvers 🙂
