I'm trying to upgrade my OS from Windows 7 Pro to windows 10. I'm using the Microsoft down website. It wont' install because my PC is supported by that version of Windows 10.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Any ideas on how to work around it?

HP does provide Win10 drivers for your PC, which can be had here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-EliteBook-8770w-mobile-workstation/5257511
Looking at the specs, nothing stands out as NOT being compatible so the problem is most likely that you're trying to use Windows Update to upgrade to Win10, and that is the least reliable way of doing it.
So I would suggest the following:
1) Make an image backup of your setup to external drive or large USB stick
2) Download and create Win10 install media from Microsoft and do the upgrade.

In terms of the first ... follow the instructions below to use Macrium Reflect to create an image backup of your current setup to external drive or large USB stick.
Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.
What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick
3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD
My experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space in the OS partition. This means if you have an 80GB OS partition, and 40GB is used, MR only needs about 20GB to store the image file.
I use this all the time and it typically takes less than 15 minutes to do the image backup and about the same time or less to do a restore.
NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive or USB stick in only a few minutes.

In terms of the second ... use the link below to download and create Win10 install media on a USB stick (of at least 8GB in size): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Then, insert the USB stick, select the drive it is on, (do NOT boot from it), select the setup.exe file, right-click and select run as Administator. That will start an in-place Upgrade of your current Win10 to the latest version.

I've made the complete backup of my drive, including an image. I created the Win10 install media on a USB stick, rebooted, inserted the USB stick, selected the drive it was on, selected the setup.exe file and ran it as Administator.
I still get the same response.
How can I trouble-shoot this?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
The issue occurs if a USB device or an SD card (or other media) is connected to the computer when attempting to perform the update.
Remove all external media and USB devices, then restart the Windows 10 May 2019 Update installation.
