Don't laugh ... Yes I am talking about a Laptop (9 yrs old) (HP Pavilion dv6736nr Entertainment Notebook PC) with Vista on it ... Question A): is it feasible to upgrade it to Windows 7 ? ... Question B): are batteries still available for it? .... It works ok (I only use it for one thing occassionally) and have a desire to upgrade it... not sure why ... just want to do it.

Yes assuming its still working you can upgrade to Windows 7. Flash the BIOS to the latest while it still has Vista. And yes you can find a battery for almost anything.
The Vista 64 bit drivers will work for Windows 7 64 bit:
Latest BIOS:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52477.exe
You should make sure it has 4 gigs of memory to run Windows 7 decently.
Understand this model series with the AMD processor are kind of "snakebit"....caused lots of issues in the day. But if it has not failed yet it may not. Just don't put much actual money into it. 4 gigs of RAM will not be very expensive.
