Windows is ending service for Windows 8 so I need to upgrade to Windows 10.
Does anyone know if this is possible with my Pavilion 17-e117dx?
If so, does anyone know what Ram chip I would need to increase my memory from 4gig to the Max capacity?
Thanks

Hi:
I looked up the specs for your notebook, and it should be able to run W10.
Here's how you can get the free upgrade to W10:
If you want to give it a try, make the W10 64-bit USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
After the USB media has been created, do not boot from it.
Open the USB flash drive in Windows explorer and double-click to run the Setup application you see on the list of files to begin the upgrade process to W10.
If the upgrade is successful, should have an activated installation of W10.
You can easily go back to W8.1 within 10 days as long as you don't delete any of the upgrade files or the Windows.old folder.
Go back to Windows 8.1 - Microsoft Support
Your notebook supports 2 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory.

Below is the link to the service manual. The 12 GB max memory specification is incorrect. 2 x 8 GB is supported.

You should be able to upgrade to Windows 10. I believe MS still gives it for free now, I'm not sure.
RAM: You can upgrade to 16GB (max) using compatible RAM such as https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr3/ct102464bf160b/ct6167186 (you nee 2 pieces).
Regards.
