Hi, accidentally ran the Disk Sanitizer.
By the time I realized what was happening, the process had already started and I was afraid to abort mid stream.
Now I have no OS, it simply tells me that:
BootDevice Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
Hard Disk - (3F0)
F2 System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup
Tests run fine but pressing F9 or F10 simply goes to the test options and not BIOS or boot options.
I put a Windows System Repair Disc in the CD/DVD bay but it doesn't seem to recognize it.
The laptop came with Win 7 Home Edition which I still have the code for but not sure how to safely reinstall without the disc.
Also not sure if I can even install if the CD/DVD bay is not reading CDs properly. How would I get the computer to boot off
So I am unable to utilize the instructions at: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443463

Hi:
Here is the link to the W7 Home Premium 64 Bit ISO file.
The link will be good for 24 hours from the time of this reply.
Use the Microsoft tool I have zipped up and attached below that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a USB flash drive so that it is bootable.
You can also burn the file to a DVD, but you need to use a dual layer DVD since the ISO file is larger than 4.7 GB.
To boot from the DVD drive or USB flash drive, try pressing the ESC key first at boot to get the menu of options.
Then select the F9 boot options menu and press the Enter key.
Then select the USB flash drive or DVD as applicable.

Hi, thanks very much for your very rapid and helpful reply.
I am downloading the file now.
I am not sure if I was clear on my original post but the F9 Boot Options as well as the F10 BIOS menu buttons don't seem to work.
When I press them, the computer simply diverts to System Diagnostics.
When I run all the System Diagnostic tests, they all turn out fine.
When I placed a System Repair Disc in the DVD/CD bay, it doesn't seem to recognize it and boots (or misboots as described previously).
Please advise.

You're very welcome.
Yes, I understood that pressing the F9 or F10 keys don't work, which is why I suggested pressing the ESC key first.
That should launch a menu of options from which you select the F9 boot options menu, or the F10 setup menu.
Now if that doesn't work either, your PC has developed a problem of some sort.
You can try performing a forced reset of the notebook to see if you can resolve the F9, F10 menus not working.

Yes, I did mis-communicate.
I have been pressing the ESC key to get to the menu which includes F9, F10, etc as options but pressing F9 or F10 causes a black screen pause and then diverts to the System Diagnostic screen as if I had instead pressed F2.
Oh, I had been operating the laptop without the removable battery and with only the AC adapter.
I will try various combinations of it with and without the battery.
Any chance the lack of use of the battery is the issue?

Hi, I tried the hard reset but it didn't seem to do anything.
When I press ESC, it goes to the FN key menu.
However using F9 or F10 simply diverts to the System Diagnostic menu.
I have not yet tried a DVD with Win7 nor a USB but I am not sure how this would help if I can't force boot using those inputs.
Please advise. Thanks.

You won't be able to boot from a DVD or USB flash drive unless the PC automatically boots from one of those devices since it can't find a bootable device.
It is kind of encouraging the PC wants to boot from a network device, so I would plug the flash drive in a USB 2 port and see if by chance the PC boots from it.
That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Would my drive read a dual layer DVD? I am trying to get my hands on one now. If it can't then there isn't much point in putting Win 7 on it and trying to boot from it. I will also try a bootable USB but is there a way to force the computer to go into boot options or BIOS menu?
