When I switch on my laptop, I usually let it be in order for the blue screen to not appear. However, at almost every switching on/ using the laptop from sleep mode, the blue screen always pops up (i also hear whirring of the fans sometimes). It also pops up when I'm using the laptop as well. Not too sure what may have caused it as it has been happening for awhile (beginning of the year) but didn't have time to fix it/bother as it didn't affect my work (not as frequent). It happens more frequent now (every computer use) and I would like to rectify it as soon as possible as I have e-exams coming up.

Hello @nadiahh
Your problem is known as Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). BSOD is kind of Windows self-protection feature. If you received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss.
A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error. What you describe could happen because of incompatible with Windows driver (most often) or because of hardware issue (rarely).
- Particularly, in your case the problem is caused by the AMD/ATI video card driver. Drivers are basically the software parts which controls the hardware and tells your Windows how to use a particular hardware component.
- It may also be Windows corrupted, the driver corrupted or simply incompatible. From what I see on the HP website, the available AMD driver version is kind of old (like two years old) and this may not be compatible with latest Windows 10 versions.
Potential solutions to your issues:
1. Read this article >> https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image
2. Make sure you are online. In a CMD (command prompt) started as Administrator, place:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
and hit [ENTER]
3. After successful DISM has completed, again in a CMD with Admin rights, place and run
SFC /scannow
Restart your computer
4. Click on Start button, type Device Manager an open it
Uninstall the display driver of AMD/ATI and restart. Here are instructions you may use as a reference >>
https://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-Graphics-Drivers
5. Download and run the AMD Clean up utility >> https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601
Restart the computer
6. Make sure you are online and open Device Manager. Make sure your Display driver is updated. Here are instructions >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
