HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p261sa (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have googled this and it is a problem with the digital licence, so they say. But I am unable to fix it so here goes with what happened. My notebook had Windows 10 Home edition and was fully updated until I went to update the operating system from the 1909 build to the May 2020 build. Everything was going good and it updated it. The next day on the screen was ACTVITE WINDOWS. so I tried doing that after seeing what version I was running. The upgrade had downloaded WIN 10 Enterprise Version and after trying to validate it it said I didn't have the right product code or something. I tried to revert back using the rescue program but it just reloaded Win 10 enterprise again. What should I do now please I have tried contacting HP but there is no support available for this issue on an out of warranty Notebook.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to back up your files onto a portable hard drive.

Then make bootable W10 installation media using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You will be asked what version of W10 you want to install, and you will select W10 Home.

When you get to the part of the installation that asks you to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and should automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

If for some reason that doesn't work, you can reinstall W8.1, and take the free upgrade back to W10 Home.

I will give you a way to reinstall W8.1 if you don't have installation media for it.

I finally managed to get some outside help but thank you for the suggestions.

The fixes were to get my original OS back came from Microsoft and there is a link that will return your PC to the previous OS while you are connected. Simple and effective and doesn't take an age.  I don't know why my recovery copy didn't do that but then that's another problem That I will deal with later.

For anyone thinking of upgrading manually (like I did) from Version 1909 to 2020 (2004), my advice is to wait until it becomes available with your normal windows updates please read the attached article with this link:  https://www.techrepublic.com/article/microsoft-starts-rolling-out-windows-10-may-2020-update-via-win...
