I installed Arch linux on my Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa1xxx. I want to migrate to windows. Linux is unstable for me and I need windows. When I boot into Windows setup, It asks for storage drivers. A media driver your computer needs is missing. Insert removable media with drivers. I did all of these as per Grok instructions->

  • Run: wget https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp146501-147000/sp146929.exe  (grok)
  • Install 7-Zip extractor if not already: sudo pacman -S p7zip (grok)
  • Extract: 7z x sp146929.exe (grok)
  • This creates a folder like sp146929 (or similar). Inside it, locate the F6 subfolder (it contains the .inf driver files like iaStorVD.inf). Note its path for later (grok)
    1. Partition and format it for UEFI boot:(grok)
      • sudo parted /dev/sdc mklabel msdos (use your device name)(grok)
      • sudo parted /dev/sdc mkpart primary fat32 1MiB 100%(grok)
      • sudo mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/sdc1(grok)
    2. Mount the partition: sudo mkdir /mnt/usb && sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/usb(grok)
    3. Mount your Windows 11 ISO: sudo mkdir /mnt/iso && sudo mount -o loop path/to/your/windows11.iso /mnt/iso(grok)
    4. Copy ISO contents to the SD card(let's call this A): sudo cp -r /mnt/iso/* /mnt/usb/(grok)
    5. Copy the RST drivers: sudo cp -r path/to/extracted/F6 /mnt/usb/ (place the F6 folder at the root of /mnt/usb)(grok)
    6. Unmount: sudo umount /mnt/usb /mnt/iso && sudo rm -r /mnt/usb /mnt/iso(grok)

    Your SD card is now bootable with drivers included.(grok)

  • It shows

    Intel RST VMD Controller 9A0B, Intel RST VMD Managed Controller 09AB, Intel RST VMD Controller 467F, Intel RST VMD Controller A77F as the driver options. I choose Intel RST VMD Managed Controller 09AB as per grok instructions.

  • Intel RST VMD Managed Controller 09AB is the recommended choice during Windows installation, as it properly handles the associated dummy devices generated by VMD hardware and prevents issues like yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager after setup.(Grok)

  • I put another removable drive(let's call this B) with the drivers extracted once, other time the F6 folder extracted and clicked install but it still asks for drivers.
  • Please help me. I am not earning, I need windows for my study, if I don't get this fixed my father will abandon me, and I will be homeless. I have only 20$. I live in India.
  • Do I need to make the B removable drive bootable.

@rotakuguy,

Your notebook appears to have an Intel Core 12th or 13th gen processor.

See this thread where the person was able to install Intel RST drivers in a 15-fa2xxx notebook with an Intel Core 13th gen processor. Just be sure to use a Windows installation usb drive created with Microsoft media creation tool.
