Hi all,

 

I got a new laptop from HP which is omen 16 it has below configurations:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics
Cores: 8
Logical processors: 16
Virtualization: Enabled

In VMware Workstation 16, whenever I try to power on a VM, it fails to start. I've tried all the solutions I could find on Google and even took help from ChatGPT, but nothing has worked so far. My CPU is very powerful, and I specifically bought this setup for practicing labs, but now I can't proceed with any labs due to this issue. I’m hoping to get some help here to fix it. Please assist.

Will HP team can provide any fix to enable nested Virtualization?
Please note : Virtualization is already enabled in bios & i don't see any advance option in bios

  1. Windows security > Core Isolation > Memory Integrity > disable

  2. Windows functionality > Hyper-V > disable

  3. Windows functionality > Windows Sandbox > disable

  4. Windows functionality > VMP > disable

  5. BIOS > Virtualization > AMD VTM > enable

  6. Local GPO > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Guard > "Disable Turn on virtualization Based Security" > disable

  7. Windows functionality > Windows Subsystem for Linux > disable

  8. admin prompt > bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off 

Nothing work.

 

Now I have solved.

To permanently disabling deviceguard must be done with the tool "Device Guard and Credential Guard hardware readiness tool"
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53337
provided by Microsoft.

These are the steps:

  1. download the zip file and unzip it

  2. open powershell with administrator permissions

  3. enters the path of the extracted folder

  4. if you don't have permession to execute the file, launch this command before:
    Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

  5. Now you are able to launch the command:
    .\DG_Readiness_Tool_v3.6.ps1 -Disable

  6. Reboot your computer, during the boot it ask you if you want disable permanently Credential Guard and VBS.

Step-by-Step Guide to Enable AMD-V and RVI

BIOS Check for Virtualization:

  • Restart your computer.
  • Enter BIOS setup by pressing F10 (this key might differ, so check your laptop’s startup screen for the correct key).
  • Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  • Look for Virtualization Technology (VTx) and AMD-V/RVI. Ensure they are both enabled.
  • Save changes and exit BIOS.

Confirm Virtualization is Enabled:

  • Confirm that virtualization is enabled in the firmware:
    1. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
    2. Click on the Performance tab.
    3. Check Virtualization status, ensure it says Enabled.

Update your BIOS:

  • Go to the HP Support page and search for your HP Omen 16 laptop model.
  • Download and install any available BIOS updates.

Ensure VMware Workstation Configuration:

  • Open VMware Workstation.

I have recently purchased this powerful laptop (model details listed below) in order to perform virtualization-related tasks.

Unfortunately, despite following all the necessary steps and recommendations, virtualization is still not working on my device.

 

I have tested it with both Hyper-V and VMware, and in both cases, virtualization features appear to be unavailable or not functioning properly — even though they are shown as enabled.

 

A very important issue is that my BIOS does not contain the “Advanced” tab, which is where the virtualization settings (like AMD-V or SVM Mode) are usually located.

I do not know how to access or unlock the Advanced BIOS menu on this laptop. I have already tried the known key combinations (such as Fn + Tab, Ctrl + F10, etc.) with no success.

 

This laptop is advertised as being powerful and capable, so it is unclear to me why virtualization is blocked or hidden. I would appreciate it if you could clarify whether virtualization is supported on this specific model, and if yes, how I can enable it properly in BIOS.

Here’s what I can share to help:

The HP OMNIBook 14-an0000ax, while designed for solid performance, may have BIOS limitations that restrict access to virtualization settings like AMD-V (SVM). Some HP consumer laptops come with a simplified BIOS interface — meaning certain advanced options are either hidden or not accessible by default.

 

Unfortunately, there’s no official way to “unlock” the Advanced tab on these models — and key combos like Fn + Tab or Ctrl + F10 rarely work on newer units due to BIOS security design.

 

That said, here's what you can try:

 

BIOS Update: Make sure you're on the latest BIOS version. Sometimes updates silently enable support.

Check for updates here.

 

System Info Check: open Task Manager → PerformanceCPU tab to see if virtualization is detected at the hardware level.

 

HP Support Assistant: Run diagnostics through the HP Support Assistant app to scan system compatibility.
