Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Could not boot up w10 properly,  would come on but took 1 half hour to get to sign in screen. Tried to do recovery with recovery USB made from another laptop but gets to 75% and says error occurred. Now it will not boot up without recovery USB.  Downloaded a w10 iso image file on another USB but when attempting to use it, it doesn't show up on the system image backup list. Any ideas?

Hi,

First, you should perform HP hardware diagnostics at boot and see if there are any hardware issues. There could be a problem with the drive.

Turn off the PC by holding the power button until complete shutdown.

Turn on the PC and repeatedly press ESC until startup menu appears.

Press F2 to enter diagnostics.

Try performing the fast system test or hard drive test and see if there are any failure ids.

You should create a bootable USB drive with Windows 10 on it by using the media creation tool on different PC (or you can use software such as Rufus to create a bootable USB with the iso you downloaded)

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You then boot from this USB drive to perform a clean install of the OS on the machine (clean install). Remember you will lose all personal data on the machine.

To boot from the drive

Turn off the PC by holding the power button until complete shutdown.

Turn on the PC and repeatedly press ESC until the startup menu appears.

Press F9 to enter the boot menu

choose USB drive (EFI if available)

During install choose custom install and delete all partitions and install in unallocated space

Update everything in settings once installed.

Hope it helps,

David
