Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r1000 (8Z7S8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My new laptop has not W11(freedos is the OS) and when I tried to install w11 from a USB flash drive and after entering the product key I got the following message: "The selected volume is offline. To install on this volume, use the disk management tool to put the volume online." This occurs on disk 0 partition 3, which have the most space, 918.1gb. In addition, it appears in the type column that this partition is of unknown type.

Running the diskpart and list disk commands in freedos, it tells me that disk 0 has a size of 953gb but an available space of 499mb.

Please tell me how to proceed to be able to continue with the installation of the W11 OS or if it is preferable that I return it to the seller.

Hi @durdi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re experiencing with installing Windows 11 on your new HP Victus laptop. I know how frustrating it can be when a new device doesn’t work as expected. Let’s work together to resolve this.

  • When creating the USB flash drive, did you use the official Windows Media Creation Tool, and was the drive formatted as NTFS or FAT32?
  • Have you attempted to delete and recreate partitions on Disk 0 during the installation process?
  • Are there any other disks or drives connected to the laptop that might interfere with the installation?

Let's try these steps.

Check Partitioning in the Windows Setup:

  • Restart the installation process from the USB drive. When you reach the disk selection screen:
    • Select Disk 0 Partition 3 and click Delete. This will free up unallocated space.
    • Click New to create a new partition and let the setup tool format it automatically.
  • Attempt the installation again.

Use Diskpart to Clean and Reinitialize the Disk:

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Ensure the following:
    • Secure Boot is enabled.
    • SATA Mode is set to AHCI.
    • Boot mode is set to UEFI (not Legacy).
  • Save changes and retry the installation.

Recreate the Bootable USB Drive:

  • If the USB drive wasn’t created with the official Windows Media Creation Tool, recreate it using a different tool:
  • Make sure the USB drive is at least 8GB in size and formatted correctly.

Verify the Disk's Health:

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
