Hello Collinsmwenda,

Thank you for posting your concern,

If your Windows Security application is not working on your HP device, it may result from various reasons such as software conflicts, system updates, or corrupted files. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

  1. Restart Your Computer:

    • Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve temporary issues with system applications like Windows Security.
  2. Check for Windows Updates:

    • Ensure that your system is up-to-date by installing the latest Windows updates. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  3. Run the Windows Security Troubleshooter:

    • Windows has built-in troubleshooters to help fix problems. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Run the "Windows Security" or "Windows Defender" troubleshooter if available.
  4. Check Windows Security Services:

    • Make sure that necessary services for Windows Security are running. Go to Start > Run (or press Win + R), type services.msc, and press Enter. Look for services like "Windows Defender Antivirus Service" or "Windows Security Center Service" and ensure their status is "Running".
  5. Check for Conflicting Software:

    • Third-party antivirus programs can sometimes conflict with Windows Security. Ensure no other security software is obstructing Windows Security.
  6. Run a System File Checker (SFC) Scan:

    • Corrupted system files can cause Windows applications to not work properly. Open Command Prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow, then press Enter. Wait for the scan to complete and follow any instructions provided.
  7. Reset Windows Security:

    • Open PowerShell as administrator and type Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage, then press Enter. This might reset the Windows Security app to its default state.
  8. Check System Integrity with DISM:

    • Use the DISM tool to fix corrupted system images: Open Command Prompt as administrator, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, and press Enter.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you might consider contacting Microsoft Support for further assistance or consulting with your IT department if this is a workplace device.
