Hi,
I had a motherboard service done recently for my HP envy laptop recently. Since the board was taken out, when it was connected back BIOS came in unlocked mode. Also Windows 10 home edition which I had was saying it is not activated.
I have one more product key which I had for my 2nd laptop which I am not using now. Hence I used that product key and updated to Windows 10 Pro version using that old key.
However, how do I get back my HP envy OEM Windows 10 home key ? I contacted Microsoft and they suggested the below method, but it did not give me any key and the reason they told was that I had updated the same installation to Pro version using my 2nd key which I had,
Microsoft asked to contact HP so that they can give me the product key. Please remember that I do not want to perform a OS recovery at this point of time as my intent is only to retrieve my Windows 10 home key which came pre-installed with my envy laptop.
Any help is appreciated.
Regards
Kelvin.

Hi, Kelvin:
You are going to have to call HP and see if they will send you a product key.
What someone did was mistakenly install a replacement motherboard with no product key.
Motherboards come with or without Windows product keys.
The ones without product keys are the models that come with FreeDOS.
If you look at chapter 3 of the service manual, you will see the list of motherboards offered in your notebook's model series, and you can see that they come with and without a Windows product key.
