I just picked up an Omen Max 16 earlier this week. I set it up and was impressed by how quickly and accurately the Windows login would recognize my face and log me onto the computer. Yesterday, I installed a second SSD to the system. I took all precautions necessary, including disconnecting the battery and using an anti-static wrist strap. When I booted the system after installing the drive, everything worked fine, except Windows can no longer activate the cameras to use facial login. The camera still works - I can activate it and use it as a webcam. However, whenever Windows goes to use it for login, it hangs on a "Getting Ready..." message, and then states that it could not activate the camera and prompts me for my pin.

Its not a big deal, I can still log in, but the facial login was so quick and convenient, it would be nice to get it to work again.

I've done the hardwire and driver tests within the HP support tools, ensured all drivers were updated, and tried disabling and re-enabling the cameras. The one thing I have not tried yet is uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.

As a follow up to this, I tried using the automated HP support chat. It told me to uninstall the IR driver and reinistall it, but no IR driver is listed on their support site. From there, it wanted me to remove Windows Hello and clear the TPM, but that seemed really risky just to get facial rec to work, so I didn't go down that road.

Hi @JFDia,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with the camera on your HP Omen Max 16 after installing a second SSD. This may have affected the connection or configuration of the camera hardware. Here are some steps you can follow to potentially resolve the issue:

Check Camera Connection: Ensure that the internal connections are secure. Sometimes, during the installation of new hardware, cables, or connections may become loose. Carefully open the back of your laptop and check if the camera cable is connected properly.

Device Manager Check:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Look for Imaging Devices or Cameras. If there is a yellow exclamation mark, there might be an issue with the drivers.

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Right-click on the camera device and select Update driver.
  • If no updates are available or updating doesn’t work, try uninstalling the device and restarting the laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the correct drivers.

Windows Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
  • Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.
  • Check the settings for Facial recognition (Windows Hello) to ensure it's enabled.

Windows Update:

  • Make sure your Windows is updated to the latest version, as updates often include driver fixes. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
