When running system diagnostics, my laptop failed Hard Drive Short DST Check.

Failure ID: UBWC21-8B9BM6-XD7X7G-60QF03

Can someone please tell me what this means?

Hi:

You will need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

HP Notebook PC (AMD) * Models: 15-ba100 – 15-ba199 * Models: 15-ba000 – 15-ba099 * Models: 15-bf100 ...

You may want to consider replacing the 500 GB 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 500 GB 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool which will create a bootable recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility...You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

Since you have to use the recovery tool on another PC, you will need to enter your PC's full product number in the tool's search window, which is Y0H41UA#ABA
