Hi, I have issue that laptop will not sleep when I close the lid, while it's plugged to the charger.
When unplugged it will sleep normally.
The problem is that fans are still spinning and are quite loud, also when I leave spotify on, audio is still playing. Only screen turns off and that's it. I have to unplug and close the lid. I cannot accept this behavior.

With my new solution my laptop does go to sleep, but often fails to sleep. I can't trust it when I just close the laptop's lid. Screen and keyboard lights turn off and everything is still running, fans are spinning, music is playing... I have to manually put it to sleep from start menu and what is worse, I have to do it few times. With lid open, I can see that power button does not blink, then I have to retry, sometimes 5 or more times until it finally sleeps. When unplugged, it never fails, it just sleeps.
Now, to the point, open Local Group Policy Editor and set options with red dots.
Two options are optional:
- allow applications to prevent automatic sleep - you might want to leave it on default.
- turn off hybrid sleep - will not allow hibernation after 2 hours. (saves your SSD's lifespan).
It would be great if this solution worked 100% of times. But it still fails to sleep when I just close the lid.

Hi @kw_j ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing a power management issue or a setting misconfiguration causing your laptop not to enter sleep mode properly when the lid is closed while it's plugged in.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options (or right-click on the battery icon in the system tray and select Power Options).
- Make sure that the power plan you're using has the correct settings for when the laptop lid is closed while plugged in. You should see options for what the laptop should do when the lid is closed.
- Select "Change plan settings" next to the power plan you're using and ensure that the settings for "When I close the lid" are configured to sleep.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure that all your drivers, especially those related to power management and the graphics card, are up-to-date. You can usually find driver updates through the device manager or the HP website. Software and Drivers for OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-b1000 (4Z7U0AV)
BIOS Settings:
- Check if there are any relevant settings in the BIOS related to power management. Sometimes, there might be options to control lid closure behavior.
Windows Update:
- Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for power management issues.
Power Troubleshooter:
- Windows has a built-in power troubleshooter that might help identify and fix power-related issues. You can access it by going to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all > Power.
Third-party Software:
- If you have installed any third-party software that might be conflicting with the power settings, try uninstalling or disabling them temporarily to see if the issue persists.
Reset Power Settings:
- If you've customized power settings extensively, you might consider resetting them to default and then reconfiguring them.
Refer to this document: OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-b1000 (4Z7U0AV)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Done all of that. I will post my half solution in a minute.
- Power Options: All set correctly for both (battery and plugged in)
- Drivers are up to date.
- BIOS: There is absolutely nothing in bios settings regarding power options, (it's a laptop)
- Windows is up to date. Also I have reinstalled windows Pro, same behavior.
- Power Troubleshooter: resets my power profiles, but same behavior.
- Third-party Software: Only Firefox. (clean windows setup).
- Reset Power Settings: I've done this multiple times and it does not resolve the problem.
