Hello,
whenever windows does one of it's many updates, the fan goes back to being v noisy and audio speakers go much quieter.
Is there any way - that when windows does it's updates - I can stop it from making the audio worse and fan noisy - presently I have to reinstall drivers for audio - and install new Bios to make fan go back to quiet (how it should be).
So the fan and audio go wrong everytime there's an update - and it's getting tiresome?
many thanks, James

Hey there! @jamesvnormal, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!
I understand the cooling fan on your PC is noisy and the audio on your laptop is low.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Do you get any cooling fan error on your PC?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
As you mentioned cooling fan on your PC is noisy and the audio on your laptop is low.
Update the BIOS on your PC and check if it helps.
You can update the drivers using HP support assistant and check if it helps.
Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.
This error indicates that a problem exists related to the heat removal system. One of two possible events is occurring:
The system fan is not spinning or not spinning properly.
The temperature inside the case is too high and the fan cannot spin fast enough to remove the heat.
This error message occurs to help prevent costly damage to the computer.
Also, Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.
Turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key, you will boot into BIOS.
From the main or file menu select restore defaults.
Select F10 to save changes and exit.
Also, try the steps recommended below to solve audio issues on your PC.
Go to Windows Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers section.
In the list of audio device drivers, look for Realtek or IDT High-Definition Audio. This is the device driver for BeatsAudio (a little bit sneaky, wouldn’t you say?).
Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any music files.)
Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software.
Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video and game controllers section, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead of Realtek or IDT High-Definition Audio.
At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.
If the issue still persists try the steps recommended below.
background intelligent transfer service (BITS) transfers files (downloads or uploads) between a client and server and provides progress information related to the transfers. If the BITS service is turned off, windows update may have problems delivering files to your computer.
Start the BITS service click start, and then click run.
Type services.msc in the open box and then click ok.
Right-click background intelligent transfer service, and then click properties.
On the general tab in the startup type box, click Automatic, and then click apply.
In the service status section of the properties dialog box, verify that the BITS service is started. if it is not started, click start.
Click apply, and then click ok.
Restart the computer and try to reinstall KB982381
Also, try running a system diagnostics on your PC and check if the hardware components on your laptop are functioning correctly.
Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC.
If the diagnostics test passes it is a problem with the operating system. Try performing a recovery from F11 (System partition) on your PC.
Refer this article to know more information about performing recovery on your PC.
If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, it is a hardware issue with your laptop.

Hi, many thanks for your excellent and thorough response, it's very much appreciated, I have re-installed the bios system which has cured the fan issue, thank you.
I will wait until the next windows update to see if it un-does what the reinstallation of the bios fixed.
I have also reinstalled the audio drivers in the past - which fixes the sound issue - it's just - after a windows 10 update - it undoes everything? Which is what is confusing?
