I had the Black Death screen on my laptop. I am trying to use a bootable DVD to reinstall or repair my OS. I cannot access my operating system at all. I decided to reset my computer but get this message that says, “The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.”

Where do I go from here?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Hello @Tee_McBride

You get this message because something is using your drive (something has locked it), for example BitLocker encryption. TPM information may also have been cleared. I recommend that you perform fresh clean installation by booting from new USB installation media - do not attempt repair/refresh.

Follow the instructions in the enclosed PDF file below - use Media Creation tool, create a bootable USB drive, boot from it and install (reinstall) Windows 10.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes
