I am not sure what a new key would cost. You could order Recovery Media from HP which doesn't require a key. Think it is about $40.

Hello @jhorieboi
Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.
Please, post some more information and details:
- where did you get the Windows 8 ISO from ?
- what is your HP PC model and product number (p/n) >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
- have you tried ProduKey
1. Download ProduKey from Nirsoft >> http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
x86 Windows >> http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/produkey.zip
x64 Windows >> http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/produkey-x64.zip
Extract the archive and run the program.
It will open and show you the available keys it detects. Does it detect your BIOS and Windows key(s) ? Does it says Windows version ? Take a picture of the codes and write them down. Do not post them here, just keep them for yourself.
2. You can use this free utility from Heidoc
>> https://www.heidoc.net/php/Windows%20ISO%20Downloader.exe
Download and run the tool. It can download ISO images from Microsoft and has lots of options for many Windows versions including OEM. If you use it, be careful to select the correct Windows ISO for the OEM, x86 or x64 edition, Home or Pro, etc... Downloads are big, ensure stable Internet connection.
3. When download completes, you will need to write or "burn" the ISO image and boot from a bootable media.
** How to create bootable ISO on USB device >> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
or
** How to write ISO to DVD >> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/burn-a-dvd-on-windows
instructions are for Ubuntu, but you need to use the ISO image of Windows. Use the Windows ISO and Rufus (3rd tool you will need)
Write FAT32 file system, MBR for BIOS/UEFI
4. When ready with the USB drive or with the DVD:
Please, shutdown the computer using the power button.
Insert the Windows USB thumdrive or the DVD prepared previously
Power on the PC.
As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately start hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).
This should open a HP Startup Menu
Choose F9 to open Boot options. Select the thumb drive or the DVD as a boot option.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows.
During the installation you might need to enter the key from step (1)
Install drivers taken from HP web site when Win installation completes
Let me know if this helps. Provide your feedback and let me know if you face difficulties.

Hi @jhorieboi
You are welcome!
The problem is that you use the Microsoft media creation tool - it is not applicable for your case. Media Creation Tools download FPP (full package/retail) version of Windows. Your PC does not have a retail version - it has an OEM version preinstalled by an OEM vendor (like HP).
Use the instructions above - ProduKey [to extract the BIOS key] and Heidoc + Rufus [to download and create installational media for OEM version of Windows, appropriate for your license - Home or Pro]
Eventually, if asked, enter the BIOS key

Hi @CF4
I really don't mean to be rude or disrespectful and I appreciate feedback and different opinions. But I feel I need to warn that the information you provide to the original posted (OP) - @jhorieboi may be slightly incorrect.
First, the OP mentions that the HDD is corrupted. The OP wrote they are attempting reinstall/reactivation and that they obtained Windows from Media Creation tool. Therefore, the first part of your post is not correct. Obviously, the OP does not have built-in recovery partition and do not have HP Recovery media. If they had such, I am sure they would have used it.
Second, they posted already that OP obtained Windows from Media Creation Tool - this is basically the links you have provided in your second part of the post. And OP confirmed this is not working. These URLs are only for FPP license (for Windows 7 and 😎 and will not accept Windows OEM keys (like keys from BIOS). Therefore, this suggestion is also not correct because the OP @jhorieboi needs OEM type of Windows to have the BIOS key accepted.
Even after that there is no guarantee 100% for successful reactivation because Microsoft may detect the new HDD and decide this may be a violation and next step would be reaching to Microsoft or HP for Windows activation (and/or using original HP Recovery media) but that is a slightly different storly and may only be a next step depending on the OP's reply.
Best regards,
IT_WinSec

Hi IT Win_Sec,
You are correct I just spoke to the microsoft inorder for me to reactivate the pre installed hdd which i reformatted

Hi @jhorieboi
I supposed you have reinstalled the HDD already. You need to also reinstall Windows and install the OEM version. Microsoft does not officially provide them but they are hidden on their servers and can be downloaded by the 3rd party utility from Heidoc. Once you download it, use Rufus to create a bootable media (e.g USB thumb drive). Boot from this media and reinstall Windows 8 OEM edition. When asked, enter your Windows key there. After successful installation, install your PC drivers. Connect to the Internet and attempt Windows activation. You may also open Start > open CMD (Command prompt) and type there this
slui.exe 3
hit ENTER
Activate Windows.
Should it happen so that you still experience issue after that and the Windows key is not allowed, please contact HP Support team or Microsoft support.
