Where to get recovery kits?

HP Pavilion 15-n225se Notebook
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My PC just got crashed due to multiple BSoD errors. It had windows 10. I tried all sort of recovery from within the recovery manager but everything failed. MY PC is now showing that its on Windows 8 but doesn't load up anymore. Nothing is working to recover it. I have no media to recover it. How can i get recovery media from any sources available? HP seems to have no chat support available in India region.

Please help.

Where to get recovery kits?

Hi,

You do not need recovery disks. You can download the media creation tool from Microsoft and create a bootable pendrive which you can then use to perform a clean install. You do not need a product key. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the internet.

First, check that the Hard Drive is functioning correctly.

Turn off the PC by holding the power button. Turn on PC and continously keep pressing ESC until startup menu appears and then press F2 to enter diagnostics. Try the fast test, or at least the hard drive test.

See if there are any hardware errors.

Here is a small guide to install Windows again:

Download media creation tool from Microsoft on PC (different PC), run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. (there is an explanation on the Microsoft web page on how to create the pendrive). Create the drive with Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the Internet.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (probably not). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off the PC by holding the power button. Press the power button and immediately keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in the boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows. Choose custom install and delete all partitions. Install in unalocated space.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times.

I recommend installing HP support assistant which will help keep your drivers up to date and much more. You can download the latest version from here.

https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html

Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product.

Hope it helps,

Hello @JunaDoos ,

you can get Windows 10 directly from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

If you need drivers from HP, you will get them here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-15-n200-notebook-pc-series/6529948/mode...

Where to get recovery kits?

Have tried the steps you mentioned but couldn't succeed as it is throwing error message while trying to boot from flash drive saying"could not find install.wmi". Tried formatting flash drive with ExFAT, but same error repeated. I am having only MAC as other laptop to prepare a bootable flash drive so i could use either MSDOS(FAT) or ExFAT on MAC to format the pendrive. I used UnetBootin tool. I also verified existence of install.wmi and it existed in bootable flash drive i created.

It looks like i am installing incorrect OS because my laptop came up with inbuild win 8 which was upgraded to win 10. And thats why it is not picking up that install.wmi.

Appreciate your suggestion. Thanks.

It is not incorrect OS. You can install Windows 10 without any problem.

The problem is with the bootable drive. The best idea is to create it directly with the Microsoft media creation tool on a Windows PC. Maybe you can do this at a friend's house or even your local computer repair shop could create the drive for you (probably not too high cost since it is free), I believe the drive is in NTFS.

Hope it helps,

David
