Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I recently upgraded Windows 10 from a previous version to 1903. Following this was an extremely annoying experience as my laptop suffered a noticable loss of gaming performance. After troubleshooting for a very long time I finally discovered the fix, which was to download the specific nVidia graphics driver provided by HP on their own website for my particular laptop model, and to artifically turn off nVidia's automatic updates (they themselves don't give you an option to do so, which is stupid). The reason my laptop hadn't automatically updated this driver before on the previous Windows version I was using was because I had nVidia automatic updates artificially disabled there, too. When I reinstalled Windows 1903 this was no longer the case. All the generic nVidia drivers that were downloaded from Windows/nVidia gave awful jittery performance that was not up to par to how it ran before. I found a random post on the nVidia forum instructing a gaming laptop user to download the propietery driver for his particular laptop model from the laptop company's website; I tried it, and as stated, it worked.

So thank god that ordeal is over. However it's got me wondering, maybe I should download all the propietery drivers? The problem is there's a lot of them and the download speed isn't great. Here's the link that's relevant for me: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/omen-by-hp-15-ce000-laptop-pc-series/15551437/model...

What do you think? Should I definitely get the Intel processor at the very least? Note my Windows 1903 is 100% updated.

Btw I did first try to use HP support assistant, as suggested by the website, but it only gave a few recommendations for things that aren't important e.g. a synaptic touchpad driver. It didn't suggest the nVidia driver that actually fixed my gaming performance. I guess it simply saw that I already had an nVidia driver in place (and a more recent one) on my system so it didn't recommend a download for it. I had to download the driver manually from the link above instead. For this reason I am also asking if I should download the processor driver manually from the website (at the very least). Even if the support assistant isn't recommending it, maybe it will still help me out? What else should I download from there?

Thanks, hope you can help 🙂

@wewlad I always enjoy reading such long posts with the attention to details, that said, if you've got no other issues at the moment, I wouldn't recommend updating the chipset drivers from the HP website, besides, there isn't one available for the windows 1903 as off yet in the link you've shared for your model.

I recommend only installing the driver and BIOS updates when you have a particular issue that requires a fix, and the update offers to fix the issue, if you know what I mean, if not, check out the Fix and enhancements listed under each update on the HP website to know more.

Also. to disable the automatic updates, follow the below steps:

1. Press the Windows logo key + R at the same time to invoke the Run box.

2. Type services.msc and press Enter.

3. Scroll down to Windows Update, and double-click it.

4. In Startup type, select "Disabled". Then click "Apply" and "OK" to save the settings.

Hello thank you for your message. I appreciate your recommendations and your tip on how to disable Windows Updates but unfortunately I'm still having problems. I've made a new thread about my problems here:

I hope you can help me out friend. I just want my laptop to run games as it used to 😞

Thanks again.

@wewlad Looks like the case is still being analyzed by the moderator's as I'm unable to access it, either way, the next step to proceed would be a BIOS recovery since the issue began since the last update was installed, please click here for details and the same should help resolve the issue.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
