Microsoft Windows 11

Good evening! While turning on my laptop it says that "Operating System Not Found". Of course, I have checked every parameter in BIOS, particularly, I checked order of boot. Also, I do have an OS - it was Windows 10 a couple of months ago and in August I downloaded Windows 11. The strange thing is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doens't. I haven't experienced such a problem for about a month but today it appeared again.

Hi @blvze1707,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message "Operating System Not Found" typically indicates that your computer is unable to locate a valid operating system to boot from. This can happen for several reasons, and here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check for External Drives: Ensure that there are no external storage devices (such as USB drives or external hard drives) connected to your laptop. Sometimes, the system might try to boot from an external device.
  • Check Boot Order in BIOS/UEFI: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Del during startup). Check the boot order settings to make sure that the internal hard drive (where your operating system is installed) is set as the first boot device. If it's not, change the boot order and save the settings.
  • Check for Loose or Disconnected Hard Drive: It's possible that the hard drive inside your laptop may be loose or disconnected. You can open your laptop (if you're comfortable doing so) and check the connections to ensure the hard drive is properly seated.
  • Hard Drive Failure: If the hard drive has failed or is failing, you might encounter this error. In this case, you may need to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
  • Bootable USB/DVD: If you have a bootable USB drive or DVD with a valid operating system installation, you can try booting from it and attempting to repair or reinstall the operating system.
  • Data Recovery: If you suspect a hard drive failure and have important data on it, consider seeking professional data recovery services before attempting any further actions.
  • BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop from the manufacturer's website. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
