Hi @Yatashi

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the laptop from any power source.
  3. Remove the battery (if it’s removable).
  4. Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  5. Reattach the battery and plug the laptop back into the power source.
  6. Power the laptop on and check if the display works.

2. Check External Display (if available)

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI cable.
  • Use the Windows key + P to toggle between display modes. The display might be set to "Second Screen Only," causing the built-in screen to remain blank.

If the external monitor works, it might indicate a problem with your laptop's built-in screen or graphics.

3. Check the Screen Brightness

  • Use the function keys on your keyboard (typically F2 or F3) to adjust the screen brightness.
  • If you're not seeing anything on the screen, check for any visible screen backlight even if there's no image.

4. Try Booting into BIOS or Recovery Mode Mode.

To enter BIOS:

  1. Power off the laptop completely.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (or F10 for some models) to access the boot menu.
  3. If the laptop responds but nothing displays on the screen, the issue is likely with the display itself.

To enter Windows Recovery Mode (if BIOS works):

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it back on, and as soon as the HP logo appears, press and hold the power button until it shuts down.
  3. Repeat the process 3 times. On the 4th attempt, Windows will automatically start Repair Mode.
  4. From there, you can try troubleshooting options, such as Startup Repair or System Restore.

5. Reset the BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • While in BIOS, look for an option like Reset to Default or Restore Defaults.
  • If you can’t see the BIOS menu properly, disconnect the battery and unplug the laptop from power. Then press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to reset the system.

6. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Faulty Display Cable: The ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard might be loose or damaged.
  • Dead Backlight: The screen could be working but with a dead backlight, making it look like it's completely black.
  • Graphics Card Issue: The graphics card or integrated GPU might be faulty.

7. Reseat RAM and Components

  1. Power off the laptop and remove the battery (if removable).
  2. Open the back panel and reseat the RAM. If your laptop has more than one RAM module, try switching their positions or testing with just one module to rule out a bad memory stick.
  3. After reseating, turn on the laptop and see if the screen works.

8. Check for BIOS/UEFI Update

  1. Check the current BIOS version (usually shown in BIOS).
  2. Visit HP Support and search for your laptop model to see if there’s a more recent BIOS version available.
  3. If an update is available, follow the instructions on HP's website to update your BIOS.

9. Perform a System Recovery

If the system is still not showing anything on the screen, and you suspect it’s a software issue (or corruption), you may need to perform a system recovery.

  • You can use the HP Recovery Manager if you can access it by pressing F11 during startup. This allows you to restore the laptop to factory settings.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
