I cannot install Ubuntu Unity 25.04 in dual-boot configuration as I can on my new Dell and Lenovo desktops and laptops  What do I have to do to get rid of hp protections on the SSD?

@DocJohn1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are general guidelines that might help you with dual boot issues:

Disable Secure Boot:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS or UEFI settings by pressing the F10 key during boot.
  • Navigate to the "Security" tab.
  • Find "Secure Boot Configuration" and disable Secure Boot.
  • Enable "Legacy Support" if necessary.

Adjust SSD Settings:

  • Ensure the SSD is configured properly in the BIOS settings. Sometimes disabling fast boot options can help.

Partition SSD:

  • Use Windows Disk Management or a third-party software to shrink the Windows partition and create space for Ubuntu.

Install Ubuntu:

  • Boot from the Ubuntu USB installer and select the "Install Ubuntu alongside Windows" option, if available.
  • Follow the installation instructions.

BIOS Updates:

  • Sometimes updating your BIOS to the latest version can resolve compatibility issues.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you, Zoey.  You have made some good suggestions, but most all the operations you suggest are sone automatically by the current version of the Ubuntu installer.  However, there is a much more basic problem that I hope you can help me with.  The Win 11 Disk Management program on the 17-cp3005dx laptop IS NOT reporting the Ext4 partitions that the Ubuntu installers have placed there.  Moreover, it shows only one of the exFAT partitions I have made on the SSD.  NOW, if I use AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional Edition to view the partitions on the SSD, it sees TWO Ext4 partitions (178 GB, 185GB) and TWO exFAT partitions (447 GB, 608 GB).  Perhaps the reason that the laptop won't boot into Ubuntu is that hp has done something to the Win 11 OS to keep it from seeing other OS?
