Thanks for all your help Paul 😀
There are NO unknown devices in Device Manager. The link you gave for Ralink Bluetooth driver has installed according to Device Manager. I didn't have time to test Bluetooth, as the laptop was being given to boys at Christmas, so its now 400 kms away. I'm hoping if Device Manager thinks driver is OK, then it is.
At least it didn't completely disappear in Win 10. BTW, I didn't know WiFi adapter can be replaced in a laptop. I've inserted / changed PCI cards in older desktops, but thought WiFi adapter would be part of a laptop's motherboard. If you wish to advise a replacement in case Bluetooth is needed & doesn't work, that would be a good backup, & I can search here or HP support re changing it.
I didn't get time to test if all programs still work in Win 10, but HP Support Assistant program didn't find any errors, & Win all updated, so I ran CCleaner & Defrag, then imaged all the partitions on the hard drive.
Thanks again for your advice & time to tell me that,
Ron

You're very welcome, Ron.
Here are the two wifi cards you can upgrade to in that model...you can probably find them on eBay by searching by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card...
Dual band AC: Max throughput of 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo HP part # 724935-001
Dual band N: Max throughput of 300 MBPS on the 5.0 wifi band
Broadcom BCM943228HMB WiDi 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo HP part # 730668-001.
Chapter 5 of the service manual has the wifi adapter removal and replacement procedure.
Happy New Year!
Cheers,
Paul
