HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-bp1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

In May 2018, HP released Intel Graphics Driver 24.20.100.6025.  This driver has known problems with Windows 10 Build 1809 and prevents users from upgrading their operating system from Build 1803 to receive new features, while also potentially impacting future security updates, and likely will prevent the upcoming Build 1903, as well.

On August 29, 2018, Intel released driver version 24.20.100.6286 to OEMs to fix the conflicts with Build 1809.  HP likely would have been among the OEMs to receive this driver, so that it could be approved for users.

As it is April 5th, 2019, it has been over seven months since those drivers were released to enable users to upgrade their operating system, but HP has not signed/approved the drivers for release to users.  Additionally, HP's own website lists the 15m-bp1xx line as being tested with Build 1809.  While this was probably true with initial release versions, this is untrue now, as I can confirm that the update will not be listed in Windows Update.

I have gone so far as to uninstall the graphics drivers, restart, install sp84062 (Intel v23.20.16.4849), restart, open devmgmt.msc, and rollback drivers to confirm that I am using the correct ones, check for updates (failure), restart, and check for updates again (failure.)  I have also attempted to install drivers from Intel ("not a supported device"), and drivers for another HP laptop that are a new enough version and support the i5 8250U/UHD 620 (I have deleted the sp and do not have the number available, it failed.)

I imagine I might be able to do a full system restore to wipe the problematic drivers entirely and update from there, but that's a little excessive and unrealistic when all HP has to do is test some drivers, sign them, package them, and release.

Any idea on the timeline or intent of HP to release drivers that do not block this OS upgrade, or are customers just up the creek without any future support?

Just for closure, this problem seems to remain unsolved by HP at this time.  I didn't want this to be yet another forum thread on the internet with "Thanks, I fixed it myself" and no actual solutions.

Support did direct me to this driver.  I had previously tried to install the latest version of Intel's driver (unknown version number), which had failed as unsupported, but 24.20.100.6286 will install without issue, which circumvents the known Intel driver block.  Just the same, Build 1809 still did not appear when manually checking for updates.

The problem may have been related to sp93034 (Intel DriveGuard) which has stubbornly refused to install successfully for months, even with an uninstall-reboot-install cycle.  I finally was fed up and downloaded the manual update here , after which a reboot was necessary to install hardware named "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor."  sp82760 (Intel Serial IO Driver) also appeared in HP Support Center after the upgrade and failed to install, so perhaps that was the driver interfering, instead.  Either way, HP may label the 15m-bp1xx as supporting Build 1809, but in reality... not so simply.

After about 5-6 hours, the experience seems relatively stable and trouble-free, so if HP gets around to updating some drivers or investigating the issue, it should work relatively smoothly for anyone else in my situation.  We'll see how 1903 works once that reaches a wider release.
