HP ENVY - 13-ad125tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently bought HP ENVY - 13-ad125tu which comes with Windows 10 Home x64 and 256GB SSD. Just as a caution, i've created Windows ISO image using the media creation tool in case i need it in the future.

If, for some reason, i decide to replace the SSD with a new one; would installing windows from the image (bootable USB) pick the license key automatically (UEFI)?

The reason i'm asking is because i just had a chat with HP tech support, and the executive told me that i would need the recovery media for the OS to pick the valid license. This is in contrary to my understanding that the OS should pick the license key automatically from the UEFI.

Best Regards,

Sang

Hi, Sang:

You are correct.

You can reinstall W10 at any time by using the Media creation tool software.

It will automatically pick up the W10 product key in your notebook's BIOS, and activate once you are connected to the internet.

No need to purchase recovery media from HP.

However, you should also be able to create HP W10 recovery media by using the HP recovery manager software program that should have come with your PC.
