HP Omen 15-dh0750nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I just got my (second*) new HP omen laptop. I was starting my computer when suddenly my CPU usage wen't up and down the whole time. After a look in the task manager I saw that this was coming from the ''System'' proces. NTOSKRNL.EXE.

For now it keeps using around 30% of my CPU and it freezes my mouse. As I'm a fan of HP products, I don't seem to have any luck with this laptop... The laptop is a replacement for a other HP Omen where the RTX 2070 just stopped working. This laptop has that to, but I have seemed to fix it for now by doing clean installs of the drivers etc.

So for now, and please let it be the last thing I have to fix on this brand new laptop!! How do I fix this??

Thank you!

@Tim10055_E Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the HP omen laptop freezing.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

First, let's start by performing a hard reset on the PC to release any excessive static/power that could have caused the issue.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

Second, you can check if there is a Bios update available for your PC, here is the link to download.

Performing a test on the Hard drive as well as on the Memory from the Hardware diagnostics:
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once for System Diagnostics.
4) Go to the Component test.
5) Run extensive Memory and Hard Drive test.

Depending on the test results, If the test passes then I would suggest you perform a complete system recovery.

Note: Recovery will wipe off everything from the computer. If you have anything important get in touch with some local stores to get your data backed up.

Hi support,

I did the tests, and also did a system recovery. Did not solve the problem! 😞 So now, I will try to do this ''Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.''

Also updated my BIOS to version F.22 (latest on HP site)

I will let you know when it helped. Reply will be here tommorow as the problem is not occuring every start-up.

Thank you.

Hello,

For now, I did do the 15 seconds hold down thing. Still, sometimes my laptop seems to be acting up. It feels like it's working some better now tho, the freezing doesn't stay the whole time. Just for a few seconds (And i think it's coming from the Omen Control Panel now).

I indeed contacted support and they asked me to do a clean install and do a full Component test in the BIOS.

I did those steps and like said, they didn't change much.

For now thanks for helping me!
