Envy 15-ae 190nz
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi over there,

the problem is as follows: After update 1803 of Windows 10 64 Bit one can log in, then the reworking of the user account fails: One sees a mostly white screen where in the left upper corner some slilder with Cortana configuration texts appears. One cannot click anything, one cannot leave or close that screen; after CTRL-ALT-DELETE one CANNOT start the Task Manager, one CANNOT do CTRL-R do get a DOS Prompt.  Actually one can no longer login to Windows 10 1803. The lock screen is last thing doing correct user interaction with graphics and mouse.

This happens for every account one want to login for.

Many thanks in advance for your help and advice.

U. Krause.

This could be solved fortunately by the following procedure: Click into the cortana configuration text one the elsewhere white screen, then two tiny reactangles (usually a big 'Accept' and a big 'Deny') became clickable, this way going ahead in partisan mode (seeing only about 10% of text and seeing no meaning of the tiny reactangles) it was possible to work through the custommer account update under Windows 10 Update 1803 --- and here we are --- from now on the windows explorer came up and everything was fine.

This Envy is the newest PC we have (the older ones 2011 (HP) and 2012 (HP) worked flawless through the Update 1803, the one in the office (HP) too) and it would have been a pitty to having real trouble with it.

But anyway many thanks for taking care and giving advice.

Best regards

Hi @UKrause

Welcome to the HP Support forum.

I recommend you return back to the previous Windows 10 build priot to installing 1803 - there are several bugs in 1803 reported so far, so it would be better to just wait some time.

SCENARIO 1 >> If you are able to login somehow - follow these steps >> https://pureinfotech.com/uninstall-windows-10-1803-april-2018-update/

  • Open Settings.

  • Click on Update & Security.

  • Click on Recovery.

  • Under “Go back to the previous version of Windows 10,” click the Get started button.

SCENARIO 2 >> If you are NOT able to login

Info >> https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4097-go-back-previous-version-windows-windows-10-a.html

- Please, shutdown the computer using the power button (pressed and hold for a few seconds until PC powers off)

- Power the computer back on.

As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) before any logo appears. This should open a HP Startup Menu

- Choose F11 for System Recovery options.

- Go to Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> Go back to previous build

Follow on-screen instructions.

Hope this works for you

If you returned successfully to previous Windows 10 build, eventually download and run this utility >> http://greatis.com/blog/stopupdates10

It will help you stop/disable Windows update service so that you leave it like this pending for a couple of weeks. After that you could try again.
