This may come off as more of a rant than anything else!
On or about Oct 14 2018 my laptop seemed to be slowing down so I decided to do a "system restore" to a previous known good running point.
That is where my trouble started 11 days ago since my laptop had worked and numerous hours spent along with $$$$!
After trying the restore my laptop booted up in the BSOD 2 weeks out of warranty! I tried everything but could not get around the enevitable, I would have to do a "FACTORY RESTORE" Now where did I put that boot disk?
Not to be found, bite the bullet and ordered the recovery usb from HP!
Finally get my laptop back up and running now, I have to reinstall my software....wait I am on an "old version of Windows 10" I'll have to update it too! 5 days to finally get my windows up to version 1803 from version 1607, see attached image.
The current version of 1803 finally completed this a.m. after numerous attempts and failures to complete, there must be a better way!
Not happy!

Most drivers/software are readily available on your Support page:
You also have a folder on your laptop that contains all original installer files that can be copied to external source. C:\SwSetup
I realize the clean installation is not for everyone- but it does avoid a lot of the Windows Update woes and is preferable to many.Others reading this thread may benefit.

Many owners prefer the clean install method. Your Windows 10 license key is embedded in BIOS and you can reinstall Windows without HP Recovery Media. Microsoft provides the free Media Creation Tool to download files and create a Windows 10 usb flash drive.Advantage is you will have latest version of Windows 10. At least 8gb flash drive required:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Select Download tool now, and select Run.
If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit) for Windows 10.
The Guide here shows the steps.Skip Step 5 unless you will be using another pc.I would just use the laptop to make it:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create-bootable-usb-flash-drive-install-windows-10-a.html
-------------------------------
When the flash drive is prepared insert it in a usb port. Power on the laptop and immediately start tapping Esc key. From the menu tap F9 key and use the arrow keys to move to and select usb. Tap Enter key.
When installing and you go through first few screens- choose Custom and select each partition and delete each (if you have more than one).Install on the unallocated space left from that process.Continue with installation. It should pickup the key from BIOS but if it asks at any point just choose "I don't have a key". It will continue and should activate once you are online.
This will not include the original software from HP but most of it can be installed from your Support page.

Internet is probably avg. @ up to 10mb download speeds the problem I believe is with the Windows 10 platform, I had a 1TB external usb partitioned into 2 drives labeled "J" & "G" as the update was running ALL 3 OF MY PRIMARY DRIVES WENT TO 100% ACTIVITY (C:,G:J:)
I was finally able to get Windows 10 ver 1803 updated and installed after running the Windows troubleshooter for windows updates, this removed previous updates and re-installed the 1803 update.
see attached:-

I wrote a lengthy response to you CherylG but I got marked as "SPAM" and removed.
You are probably correct but "BEWARE OF Windows 10 UPDATE" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12373/windows-update-faq

I cannot see the graphics you posted.
CherylG's method gives you the latest major version of Windows 10. After that, there may be and usually are cumulative monthly updates.

I can't see it.
Some forums block JPGs.
You need to log out of your HP accout and see if you see that JPG.

Images in any format can't be seen by anyone except the original author until approved by a Moderator. Mods are pretty efficient with viewing and approving images but in very busy periods it may take awhile.
I see all of the images but really don't comprehend the relevance to clean installing latest version of Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool I suggested? This thread got pretty polluted with Replies/Quotes so forgive me if I missed something.😊
