Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I am running a HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC , Windows 10 Home version 1909.

This keeps doing a n automatic update since this Win10 version is obsolete and out of service by Microsoft. When it does this the computer wont function with the new version of Windows 10. I then need to go back to the older (currently installed) version. How can I get the right update for Windows 10? Thanks.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant in order to install all latest drivers for windows 10: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating) To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Thanks a lot I will try that.. Ive been trying to avoid updates as they tend to make the computer completely unusable (internet not possible, the home screen unresponsive) but ill try this and see and report back.

Thank you for the advice...

 

I downloaded and ran the HP support assistant, and it reported that i did not need any updates and my drivers are all set too.

It also did not show any BIOS needed to be upgraded.

 

So the newly-downloaded support assistant version 9+ says i am all up to date.

 

Yet i keep getting every hour a popup saying I need to upgrade my computer because this version of Windows 10 is at the end of its service life. It gives me the option to do it now or wait an hour. I always hit wait and hour.

Perhaps this popup is a virus or is this message from HP or Microsoft? [I bought the computer with Windows 8 on it and was soon after upgraded to 10 by Microsoft for free]

I run McAfee anti-virus and it is up to date.

That was your decision. Now you need a complete new installation. There is no chance to avoid that!

So go to Microsoft and download the new "Media Creation Tool" and prepare the new installation.

Thank you for the comment.Sorry for the delay I have been traveling.

 

Well let me rephrase that..

 

I avoid this particular (and only this particular) update because it crashes my computer badly when it it does the update. 

The reason i am on the HP site is to find out if there is a HP-specific update for the computer, since the generic Microsoft software the computer downloads automatically seems to the the issue.

 

I do updates regularly... but this is a major one (with multiple restarts) and the computer does not recover from it and becomes unusable (wont connect to internet, won't run applications and then freezes).

This cant be right can it?

 

Ive done this update three times with the same results and always have to revert to the previous edition.

 

Regular patches / updates don't cause any issues.

There are many reasons why an update doesn't run successfully. And sometimes they are difficult to troubleshoot.

In 95 % of the cases an Inplacement runs successfully. That means:

Prepare a second partition or a USB-Stick with the last (!) Media Creatin Tool and start the setup.exe from WIN10.

This exchanges all corrupt Windows files and updates your system. It's almost like a new installation.
