This morning my laptop crashed when I Clicked to open a word document in an email from a known sender. Instantly got a green screen stating Windows needed to re-start, but on reboot it said it Windows could not start.
- I was able to open the Word document with no issues on another Windows 10 laptop - so that is not the issue
I attempted to enter safe mode using f4 on reboot. All I got was a black screen with cursor at top left and the laptop made a continous loud tone - as if at 100% volume. Best I can describe it was something like the sound EAS test makes. Not beeping or siren like, just continuous blaring.
After about a minute with no ability to mute, lower or muffle the sound I gave up and closed the lid. The sound stopped after a few seconds.
A short while later I opened the laptop again and as soon as I touched the power button (or maybe it was already on, not positive) I was prompted for my password and I was in safe mode.
Tried to roll Windows back to a system restore showing a date of 4/10/19 with description Windows Update. I Checked a couple times and saw blue screen with message...initializing system restore...then...writing registry...or something to that effect
Then I had the black HP boot screen with spinner like it was booting...next time I checked it was completely shut down
Powered on, got the HP boot screen with spinner for a couple minutes. Then it went to green screen and said it need to restart but just shut down.
Now I am not able to get back into safe mode again. What should I do next???

Your HDD could be damages (soft or hard) but please try c clean install first. Since your machine previously ran Windows 10, you can do a clean install W10 for free by using the media creation tool at the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
The tool will allow you to make a bootable installation media (USB/DVD) and you can use installation media to install.
During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.
Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page.
Note: If you wish to keep user files and applications/programs, you ned to select this option from the beginning.
Regards.

Hi,
You could first try performing diagnostics on the drive and see if it is failing. Turn off the PC by holding the power button, Turn on PC and continuously press ESC until startup menu appears. Press F2 to enter diagnostics and run a system test (or at least the hard drive test).
