Sorry - but this is getting so frustrating. When I press F11 it comes up with a different menu than you show. It is a "HP Recovery Manager" with the following selections:
Microsoft System reccovery
System recovery
minimized image recovery
Run computer checkup
show contact information
file backup.
NO "advanced options or compand prompt choice.
I did find I have 5 dvds that i marked "laptop recovery". I beleive they were created when I first bought the laptop in 2012. Should I just try doing them?

did a diagnostic test again and battery failed, says replace. but I cn still do diagnostics without laptop battery. Can't get to command prompt to copy desktop.ini files. getting fristrated. Just going to do the recovery using DVDs from when I first bought laptop in 2012. luckily I backed up pwersonal files before this all happened. thanks for your input.
