My HP laptop crashed and I had to do a reload. However, since I did not have the Windows key with me at that time, I was not able to activate the product.
My laptop came pre-loaded with Windows 8.1 and was later upgraded to Windows 10 Home.
I need to reload Win10 now and need the digital license.

The Windows 8.1 product key is encrypted in your PC's BIOS.
To reinstall W10, boot from the installation media.
You will be asked what version of W10 you want to install.
Select the version of W10 you upgraded to (probably W10 Home or W10 Home single language).
You have to know exactly which version to install, or W10 will not activate.
Then you will be asked to enter a product key.
Select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and then activate after you are connected to the internet.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
