The SSD doesn't show up in the device manager and hardware list in Windows 10. Tried running hwinfo but still doesn't show up any info/details. Any specific drivers or updates that I need to do?
Please help.

This has been an ongoing issue. The laptop is designed to use M.2 2280 disks, either SATA-3 or PCIe/NVME. In fact, that is the only storage option. There are 2 slots. Have you put the WD Black in the primary or secondary slot? Are you using it to boot or for storage?
Some have reported that the Samsung Evo 960 NVME or the 960 Pro NVME are not recognized on similar laptops. Such as the Zbook 15 G3 (not Studio) which has basically the same hardware. I have installed NVME M.2 disks now in 3 different HP laptops without issue including 2 Zbook 15 G3s and I have always used the ones specified in the Manual which are Samsung SM951, PM961 and SM961 models. I have not tried any other model. There is a post here on the Forum by a user who got a Samsung 960 model working and I will look for it and link it if possible.

No or the Samsung would not work. You might try swapping the disks in the slots and see if the primary slot can detect the WD. Obviously you will not have Windows but you have pretty advanced BIOS on that machine. In fact have you tried to see if the WD is seen in UEFI or the BIOS?

I don't want to hijack this thread but I just wanted to try to clarify that what you've said applies to my machine because it's not completely obvious as to what machine you're referring to in this reply.
I've got a Zbook 15 G3 Studio and would like to add a 2nd M.2 storage device. I was unclear if both M.2 slots have the PCI/NVMe interface. I.E. Would it make sense to spend the money on the 2nd drive to get the NVMe.
(Admittedly i'm clear as to what each acronym means precisely but that's a diffferent discussion)

Both slots on the Zbook 15 G3 Studio can handle either a PCIe/NVME or a SATA-III M.2. If it is to be used for storage and not as a boot disk I would get a SATA as they are ever so slightly cheaper and seem to have fewer compatibility issues.
SATA-III M.2 is 3 or 4 times slower than PCIe/NVME but still 3 or 4 times faster than a mechanical disk so plenty good for storage. In my non-Studio Zbook 15 G3 I have an NVME as the bootdisk and then a 2.5 inch SATA SSD for storage and it is plenty fast for anything. A SATA-III M.2 operates at the same speed as a SATA-III 2.5 inch SSD.
