Unfortunately, the issue is beyond my ability to offer any further suggestions.

The link you gave above is for a Windows 10 recovery kit.   There isn't any description for the kit.  Do you know what it is?

Dang!   $44 and they don't even tell you what your getting.   Kind of a leap of faith.  Just tell me how high.

Thanks anyway Paul.   I appreciate your help.   I'll not be wasting any more money on this HP laptop.

Between you and me ... this should have been a stop ship issue for HP.  Crazy that it made it out the door.

Thanks again,  appreciate your time.

You're very welcome.

You'd have to call HP to get further info regarding the recovery kit, and I doubt they would be able to tell you anything about it.

Hi Paul, I wanted to follow up with you.

I downloaded the HP cloud recovery tool again.  Found a Windows 10 Pro PC and spent a couple of hours making the USB image.  Took it home and get ... no HDD found error.

So, I tried chatting with HP support but the technician wasn't responsive (no replies to questions) so I disconnected from the chat session.  To my surprise, the technician opened a case for the problem.   I've no idea what happens to an HP case but there is one opened.  Looked around HP site and don't see anywhere to look up a case.

Sooooo ... I am going to query the community to see if anyone knows how to get around the HP recovery tool not finding any drives.   I am sitting here just shaking my head.  🙂

Terry, I have the exact same problem. I can install Linux distribution with no problem, tried the RST drivers and recreated MS reserved, efi boot & recovery partition using diskpart from Win10 install media. Can install Win10 in virtualbox in Linux but can't install It on a NTFS partition on SDD. I think the solution is to download the HP Cloud Recovery Tool which I have done but I need to find a Windows system to run it on. I haven't been able to get the Win10 in vbox to see the the USB drive. If you found another solution I'd be interested to hear what it is. Did I say I have an extreme aversion to Windows?

I finally saw the other replies offering the same advice I just offered some 2 months later. I guess I'll have to lower my expectations about the recovery utility. I thought it was going to create essentially the same thing that was on the recovery partition that came with the system.
