This HP 1000 PC notebook model 1440br was given to me by a friend with the only demand of clearing the HDD completed. The original 500GB HDD was cleared during a whole day but wont go back to the note, instead I did put a SSD. I will put more memory, change the keyboard, but was already making the preparations to an install of a Windows 10 (was running before) downloading 22H2 version.

I did a Pendrive with Ventoy and also a DVD+R DL. Both have the same behavior. After booting right by the media, the HP logo appears (that's already strange), the Windows circle of little balls, after a while, will open a Windows box labeled "C:\ Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe"

Inside, there is some line command messages: Microsoft Windows [version info], Copyright, and than a prompt: X:\windows\system32> (and a blinking cursor)

However, I can't type anything, it's like the Ctrl was been pressed. I also tried with external USB keyboard - same thing.

I tried to change BIOS settings, legacy support and secure boot, no luck.

There must be a way to install Windows 10 back to this notebook... Where should I go from here?

If you are missing any drivers you can find them here

Do not install any of the above media applications.

They will need a license and upgrade to run on windows 10.

Download the Create Windows 10 Installation MediaCreationTool_22H2.exe

Go into the BIOS setup and set all defaults on every menu.  Possibly the F9 key but I do not remember.

Make sure the secure boot is enabled if that is an option.

Set ACPI or RAID

Set UEFI not legacy.

Makes sure date and time are correct and be sure to save.

When booting the USB you may have to press F12 or some special key to force the USB to boot.

If you want media applications, get them here, do not use the Cyberlink ones.

Thanks for the help. I will collect some drivers that I might need.

However, after doing all the process, the result was the same.

I tried to create a pendrive with HP Cloud Recovery Tool in a VirtualBox Windows I have in my MacBook, but the tool does not accept the product id. Unfortunatelly it make sense since this notebook is unsupported by HP. Maybe there is an image of this somewhere...

I have still Windows 8.1 64 bits in a DVD, but was not recognized as bootable. Things are getting hard for Windows! My other two options are Linux (this will be a piece of cake) and Hackintosh (this will be hell on earth, but the last option to use my Office 365).

HP is removing cloud recovery for systems over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires

You cannot use cloud recovery from one system to apply to another unless the product IDs are the same.

It is no longer possible to download windows 8 from official Microsoft sources.
It is possible to run windows 10 and 11 without activating or buying it.. There are disadvantages as explained here

There is an operating system called Tiny 10 that might work better than the full blown W10.
The official and complete tiny10 and tiny11 list – NTDEV

Thank you for the informations, will help me in difficult decisions.

I have to say 5 years is short period of time these days, anyway...

I still will try some third part Windows 8.1 ISO, but as the Windows 7 I have here that used to run anywhere, even in old Macs, didn't run, I have low expectations. I am curious about this issue with all Windows distros, having the same result...

Anyway, If you or somebody know where I can find some ISO with recovery data for this notebook, please let me know, and thanks again.

Possibly the following company might have original release CDs
Click here and enter the name of your HP computer or look on eBay.

Hope I have been helpful.
