HP ENVY Laptop - 13-ba0010na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've got an HP Envy 13-ba0010na laptop, purchased in June 2020, running Windows 10 Home 64-bit, with 16Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD disk. I want to move to Windows 11 and the MS PC Healthcheck app confirms this laptop is capable of running Windows 11, but for many months now, the Windows Update screen says "Coming soon: Windows 11, version 22H2". When I click on "Learn more", a Microsoft page says: "Safeguard Hold is affecting your device", along with ref:41291773. On searching for more information on this, I get the impression that it's a driver compatibility problem, although I can't find which driver(s) is/are the issue.

What's a bit galling is that new versions of this same Envy laptop are being sold with Windows 11 preloaded. Can anyone shed any light on this, or suggest a way forward. Any help gratefully received.

You can try one of the two options at the link below to bypass that notification:

How to disable safeguard hold to install new versions of Windows 10 - Pureinfotech

Note that HP has not provided any W11 drivers for your notebook, so things may not work properly in W11.

You have 10 days to go back to W10 should you encounter unresolvable issues on W11 as long as you don't delete any of the W11 upgrade files or the Windows.old folder.

Doing a search on the forum, I could only find one driver issue with the model series on W11, and it was only this person:

Thanks for the prompt reply, Paul. I'm not a user of the laptop's fingerprint sensor, so that's a possible positive.

But, apart from the sensor, since there desn't seem to be an actual solution to this (in fact, it's very disappointing that HP haven't provided any W11 drivers for my 4 year-old laptop), I'm thinking that, since I've got until October 2025 before Win10 support is dropped, I may just wait a while longer.  If I can find out when the free upgrade comes to an end, lol.

However, when that time comes, and if I'm in the same position, I'll follow up your suggestions, after creating a full backup and a bootable pen drive.

Many thanks

You're very welcome.

The 13-Ba1000 model series has W11 drivers so if and when you upgrade to W11, you can see if those work for anything that might need a driver.

Just don't use any of the BIOS or firmware files.
