I have been getting update notices for Windows 10 for months that result in error messages. When I follow the process of updating I end up with a notice that my notebook requires a BIOS upgrade. The windows upgrade notices indicate that my version of Windows 10 will no longer be supported. When I look at update history it shows Windows 10 version 1709 update has failed (several times). Do I need to complete a BIOS upgrade as there is one for my product or is there another way to resolve this?

Your BIOS is on the Support page. However, I have seen several report that Windows still won't update with the latest BIOS posted which is dated May/2017.
I have a current inquiry about the issue with a notebook engineer- but am not clear on his instructions until he is back in the office Mon. Below is exact reply I received from him.
------------------------------------------------
"The latest BIOS (F.45) is May/2017. Not sure how the FCU is beeing upated but there is a way to update without having to update to the latest BIOS, which I have tried successfully on multiple units.
Below is a link to a tool to get FCU.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
- Click on Download tool now or Update Now.
- I click on Download tool now
- Click on Run at the bottom of the screen and follow the process. or save the "MediaCreationTool.exe"
- launch/run the file
- follow the instruction
- It will check to see if the computer has a genuine OS installed or not. If not it will not update."

About the only thing "slightly" new I heard was more details on the process using Media Creation Tool.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Select Download tool now, and select Run.
If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
On the What do you want to do? page, select Upgrade this pc Now, and then select Next.

Another member reported that when the above process does not work- he has had success in some cases by actually creating the USB flash installer. Then open/browse it and run setup.exe from it and choose Upgrade.
At least 8gb flash drive required:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Select Download tool now, and select Run.
If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10.
