Pavilion 15-n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I stupidly removed the RAM from my laptop while it was running, and now it will not run. Windows 10 just will not boot anymore, and will not repair for the error is large.

Every time it tries to boot it tries to do an auto repair and fails, saying:
I ran a test on my laptop, and it has the following:

Processor Check: PASSED
Memory Quick Check: CANCLED
Hard Drive SMART Check: PASSED
Hard Drive Short DST Check: FAILED

FAILURE ID: RLHU41-6ND9QT-MFPWWK-60SD03
PRODUCT ID: F0Q65UA#ABA

What does this mean?

I exited from the test, and Windows Booted up. I would still like to know what the error meant.

Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means the hard drive needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

You are lucky you were able to get into Windows, and since you were, grab a portable hard drive and back up any files you don't want to lose, because the hard drive is soon to fail.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive R & R procedure.

You may want to consider purchasing a better performing, normally more reliable 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

After you replace the hard drive, you can reinstall W10 for free by creating installation media using the media creation tool at the link below. You will need an 8 GB USB flash drive for that.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

I understand for, before this, the computer just would not start up as if it was not finding a boot device, and/or did not want to work.
It usually would run under certain circumstances when I press and hold the power button.

My computer would also-ran extremely slow when with my two Anti-Viruses trying to run/scan, and I realized after each startup the RAM has gotten worse, or just vanished. It acts as if only 2GB of each 4 GB RAM Stick is usable, or only uses one stick. In Task Manager it says at the top 8GB, while it only used about 3.2 GB of RAM.

What is the R & R, and what does R & R stand for? If it is taking out the Hard drive, I know how to do it, in fact, my PC is open right now for I have it open with my mother's laptop of the same type just smaller and connected the screen to my motherboard so that I may see what comes up for not everything appears on the TV with my HDMI slot.

Would I be able to copy the whole drive to a USB drive to still use the OS without reinstalling?

Yes, R & R is an abbreviation for Remove and Replace.

I don't see the need to copy the entire contents of the HDD to a USB flash drive, just the folders in your user profile, and the SWSetup folder (which contains the program and driver installation files that came with your PC).

But that is up to you.

As far as the memory usage...If you are saying that 8 GB is installed, but only 3.2 GB is usable, then run the MS config utility,  click on the boot tab, click on the advanced options button and make sure the maximum memory box is unchecked.

If it is, then unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be in that regard.

You can continue to use the current hard drive until it dies and the PC will not under any circumstances, boot into Windows.

I understand, thank you.
