HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c3000 (767L4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought this computer from HP last year.  This morning, I got a windows activation notice.  It has previously been running fine.  When I run the activation troubleshooter i get this message "We can't activate Windows on this device because we can't connect to your organizations activation server.  Make sure you are connected to your organizations network and try again.  If you continue having problems contact your organizations support person.  When I bought this computer, it has windows 11 pro, but I have never connected to any organization network.  When I run the troubleshoot, I get windows detected a windows 11 home license.  To activate, you need to install windows 11 home.  When I try to contact HP support, they want to charge me.

@rusty1234, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems that you are encountering an issue with Windows activation on your HP 17.3-inch Laptop PC. The message you are seeing typically indicates that the version of Windows installed might be linked to a volume licensing setup, which is intended for large organizations. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your laptop is connected to the internet, as activation requires an internet connection to validate the Windows license.

Run Windows Activation Troubleshooter Again: If you have already done this and continue to receive the error, then proceed to the next steps.

Verify Windows License: Check to see if your system should have been shipped with a digital license. This license should automatically activate Windows once connected to the internet.

Enter a Valid Product Key: If the system was purchased with a standalone version of Windows, you may have to enter the 25-character product key manually:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
  • Click on Change product key and enter the key you received with your purchase.

Contact Microsoft Support: If the issue persists, contacting Microsoft Support might be necessary to resolve activation problems related to volume licensing or other anomalies.

For more detailed guidance on activating Windows 11 and potential reasons for reactivation, refer to HP's support document on Windows 11 product activation.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have the exact same issue on two HP laptops I purchased at the end of July.  i have not tried to contact HP support or Microsoft yet other than this thread.  None of the "self help" steps seem to help by clicking repair wizards and activate.  I double checked my Amazon purchase of both computers and it says the laptops come with Windows 11 Pro.  But when I try to self activate now I receive the error that my license is for Windows 11 Home and I need to reinstall.  I should  not have to go through this if the laptop was to come with Windows 11 Pro.   It worked find until yesterday when I noticed the watermark that my Windows was not activated.  There was a windows update that ran the day before and I am wondering if I should uninstall that update.  I am guessing I just need to contact Microsoft or HP support for a new product key that corespondes to the version of Windows 11 PRO that I was supposed to get with both laptops?  Or maybe just wait a few days for a new update to come out that resolves what the last update did? Any advice?
