Hello all,
I purchased a laptop in China so Windows 11 is in Chinese. I thought we could easily change the system to English but I see that is not the case. Would it be possible to re-install Windows 11 with the international version (fully on English)? If possible, could you help me know how? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @IBravoGar
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.Yes, it is possible to reinstall Windows 11 in English, even if you purchased the laptop in China with the system set to Chinese. You can do this by either changing the display language or performing a clean installation of Windows 11 in English. Here’s how to approach both methods:
1. Change the Display Language to English (No Reinstallation Needed)
You can switch your current Windows 11 system from Chinese to English without reinstalling it. Here’s how:
Steps to Change Language:
- Open Settings: Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Go to Time & Language: On the left pane, click Time & language (时间和语言).
- Select Language & Region: Under Time & language, click on Language & Region (语言和区域).
- Add English:
- Under Preferred languages, click Add a language (添加语言).
- Search for English (英语) and select English (United States) or your preferred English version.
- Click Next and then Install.
- Set as Display Language:
- After installation, click the three dots next to English (United States) and select Set as display language (设置为显示语言).
- You may need to sign out or restart your PC for the changes to take effect.
2. Reinstall Windows 11 with the International English Version (Clean Installation)
If you want a fresh start with a fully English version of Windows 11, you can perform a clean installation. This will erase everything on your laptop, so make sure to back up your important data before proceeding.
Steps to Reinstall Windows 11 in English:
Download the Windows 11 Installation Media:
- Go to the official Microsoft download page: Download Windows 11.
- Under the Create Windows 11 Installation Media section, click Download now to get the Media Creation Tool.
Create a Bootable USB Drive:
- Insert a USB drive (at least 8 GB of storage).
- Run the Media Creation Tool and follow the prompts to create a bootable Windows 11 installation USB.
- Choose Create installation media (USB flash drive) and select English as the language and Edition that matches your Windows version.
Install Windows 11:
- Once the bootable USB is created, insert it into your laptop.
- Restart the laptop and boot from USB (you may need to press a key like F12, ESC, or F2 during startup to access the boot menu).
- Select the USB drive as the boot device.
Windows Setup:
- When the Windows installation setup screen appears, select English as the display language, time zone, and keyboard layout.
- Click Install Now.
- Activate Windows using your product key (if applicable). If you don’t have one, you can skip it and enter the key later.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- Complete the Installation:
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
