Okay, been down for about a month.  I got a stick and managed to get Windows installed on a partition but worked too late one night.  And trying to use one of the tools on the stick I managed to format my whole drive, and screw up the $20 stick.

I've downloaded the HP cloud, which worked until it stopped and needed drivers.  I downloaded with the MS tool, and it stalled and froze.

Okay, I had read some people had to remove the M2 SSD (gumstick) from the motherboard, and decided I'd try this one last thing.  I had already copied the windows onto it, so I booted it, without the stick, and it started the install immediately.  I've still got to figure out how to put the stick back in (drivers), and when.  I figure I'll just finish updating the OS first, and then try it.  But it looks like I'm on the road to repair, although I've got a lot to do to even get close to where I was.

Thanks for your help.  If you're having similar trouble, try removing your SSD.  I don't know if it was trying to install Windows on that stick or if there was a problem.  My regular windows drive is an Sata drive.
